Awarding Ceremony of Certificate of Appreciation from the Government to the Major Donor to HNAP Fund

On October 30, 2024, the ceremony was held to present the certificate of appreciation to the Amakusa Daiichi Hospital for its donation to the Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize Fund.
At the ceremony, The Cabinet Office presented the certificate of appreciation to Junji Nagano, President of the Amakusa Daiichi hospital, and also expressed the gratitude.

Since its opening in Amakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture in 1971, the Amakusa Daiichi Hospital has been contributing to the improvement of local health, medical care, and welfare by opening the first dialysis clinic in Amakusa, introducing physical checkups, etc., under the founding spirit of “love, sincerity, and gratitude”.

The Onsen Rehabilitation Amakusa Clinic was awarded the Grand Prize (clinic category) of the first “Healing and Relaxing Environment Forum” (honorary chairman at the time, Shigeaki Hinohara) in 2002 for its efforts to incorporate art, including works by local painters.

President Nagano told us that he was particularly impressed by Dr. Noguchi in biographies of great men read to him by his grandfather when he was a child, and that he later studied at Nippon Medical School, the predecessor of the ‘Saisei-Gakusha’, a private medical school from which Dr. Noguchi graduated, Nippon Medical School's academic motto, “Kokki-Junko,” meaning ‘to discard oneself to serve for public’ is exactly what Dr. Noguchi practiced, and that the founding spirit of Amakusa Daiichi Hospital is also rooted in the spirit of Dr. Noguchi.
