About

  • On 9 July 2025, Mr. SETO Takakazu, State Minister of the Cabinet Office of Japan, signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with Baroness Gustafsson of Chesterton CBE, Minister of State for Investment of the UK, on promoting direct investment from the UK into Japan.
  • In this Memorandum of Cooperation, both sides have concurred to identify actions to further grow the UK’s direct investment into Japan such as holding meetings with UK companies and investors who are interested in, and committed to, investing in Japan, and sharing relevant policies and experiences.
  • Through the cooperation identified in this Memorandum, attracting robust direct investment from the UK into Japan(*) even more proactively is expected to contribute to achieving the goal set out in the “Program for Promotion of Foreign Direct Investment in Japan 2025,” which aims for the FDI balance in Japan to reach 120 trillion yen in 2030 and 150 trillion yen in the early 2030s.

(*)The balance of FDI from the UK into Japan has increased more than four times in the last decade and is the second largest of any country (about 2 trillion yen at the end of 2014 → about 9 trillion yen at the end of 2024).
